Plot
After his home is conquered by the tyrannical emperors who now rule Rome, Lucius is forced into the Colosseum and must look to his past to find the strength to return the glory of Rome to its people. Elsewhere" on "Stranger Things" see the TV and movie roles of Gladiator II stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and more. In the years following the release of the first film, there have been numerous attempts to write a sequel.
Musician Nick Cave was invited to create a version by Russell Crowe and Sir Ridley Scott
His version focused on the more mythic elements of ancient Rome and saw Maximus arrive in the afterlife, only to be confronted by other souls who have yet to pass on. He is eventually commissioned by Jupiter and other Roman deities to return to earth to find and kill Hephaestus, the former deity who betrayed them. From there, he is resurrected as a Christian and finds himself on his way back to Rome on a mission to stop the spread of Christianity, meeting the new Emperor Lucius.

The film would end with Maximus cursed to live forever, would feature a montage of the soldier fighting through the Crusades, World War II, and the Vietnam War, eventually revealing a present-day Maximus working in the Pentagon in Washington. The studio decided not to accept this version, but the script can be read online. Appears in Project 7PM: episode 3 July 2024 (2024).

The visuals are amazing, the sets and costumes look good and amazing. Pedro Pascal is great in every scene, he really sells all the emotions with such subtlety and minimalism. The main actor is one of the big problems, he always looks pale as if he doesn’t act and has no real emotions.
I expected worse, but this movie still numbed me
He should have captured our hearts from the very first scene, but somehow he didn’t. The film lacks more time early on for the audience to meet and fall in love with him, making his motivations more believable and his story more moving. Another big issue is the overarching story, the plot of Denzel Washington’s Character 39; it’s just weird and bloated, the dialogue is generally shallow…
