The only place not accessible was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador
Plot
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a high-profile job for which she is ill-suited, with tectonic consequences for her marriage and her political future. Producers have convinced both the US and British governments to allow them to use real locations for filming the series, including more recently the US Embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Great Britain allowed filming in the office of the foreign minister, which is a rare honor for any film or screen production, especially an American one. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest plot of residential land (11 acres) in London, in addition to Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.
Both characters and plots work
Shown at the 75th Emmy Awards (2024). There was a moment, I think it was somewhere in the middle of the first season of the series, when one of the subplots went a little in a different direction than I expected, and that was good. Otherwise, the dysfunctional relationship – both personal and professional – between the main characters somehow works, and I like it. The screenwriters did a good job of keeping the action clearly focused.
And it’s very good
Of course, it’s not very believable, but it’s fun and tense at times. “Madame Secretary of State” is not; and this is not “Vice President”. I should also mention that the acting and dialogues are also quite good. The casting was well done.
Are they believable?
Again, no. But that’s normal. Very quickly I realized that this is fantasy, not reality. Netflix has done a good job on this.
Please don’t screw up
I’m looking forward to season 2.
